“My biggest concern was the reimbursement process would be difficult or overly burdensome.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  The process was straight forward and easy to follow.  The quick turn around on payments exceeded my expectations.

We cannot stress enough how wonderful it has been to work with the National Foundation for Transplants and how amazing the service is that you provide.”  — Dave, Cait, Reagan, and Charley

When she was seventeen years old, Cait was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH).  Four years ago, she learned she was also suffering from primary sclerosing cholangitis (PCS).  Sadly, there is no cure for either of these progressive conditions. After twenty years of diligent treatment and monitoring, she had reached the end stage of these diseases. Her best chance for survival was finding a living donor for a liver transplant.  The average liver transplant costs approximately $878,000.

Before her movement was restricted by these debilitating conditions, Cait had been accustomed to leading an active, independent life, but her health battle forced her to adjust to an entirely new lifestyle.  Her struggle was made easier by the love and support of her husband, Dave, their daughter, family, and friends, who have all been by her side every step of the way.

Cait looked forward to receiving a transplant that would allow her to be healthy enough to resume an active lifestyle and feel normal again. More than anything, she hoped to spend more time with her loved ones and to see her daughter grow up.

Cait learned about the services provided by the National Foundation for Transplants.  Her application to become a NFT patient was approved, and a targeted fundraising goal was set.  Cait’s campaign exceeded goal and she’s grateful to her circle of supporters, family, and friends for their financial contribution.

A living donor who was the perfect match stepped forward and Cait received a liver transplant on February 2, 2021. Cait is grateful to her living donor and for receiving a second chance at life..

A message from NFT

Living donor expenses can be quite costly, adding to the financial strain of transplant patients.  It is of great importance to Caitlin and her family that her liver donor did not incur burdensome expenses associated with her gift of life.  A non-profit such as NFT can help with out-of-pocket expenses.
